Clubfoot

Clubfoot is a malpositioning of the feet which is usually innate: Here the soles of the feet are turned inwards.

If untreated, children of walking age then walk on the outer edge of the foot, and at an advanced stage even on the back of the foot. This deformity restricts infantile motor skill development and growth of the leg musculature.

Orthopaedic surgeons are easily able to treat clubfoot.
The condition is that it is diagnosed in time and therapy is started early on.

It is usually sufficient to place a plaster cast on the infant in the first few days, which corrects the malpositioning. After treatment of six to twelve weeks, an Achilles tendon extension may be necessary. A complex operation is only rarely necessary. However, treatment with splints must be continued for years in order to counteract possible deterioration.
