Rheumatic changes to the hand

Rheumatoid arthritis is the most frequent inflammatory-rheumatic disorder: It is characterised by painful swellings of the joints and as it progresses leads to destruction of joints and increasing restriction of movement.

Changes to the hand area often occur, for example redness, swelling or bending of the fingers. In many cases, we can improve or at least halt these hand function disorders with surgical operations.

Overview of specialist areas:
Arthrosis

Arthrosis refers to joint wear beyond the age-related extent. The causes may be strain, malpositioning of the joints, bone disease or genetic pre-disposition.

Nerve bottleneck syndrome

With nerve bottleneck syndromes, surrounding tissue presses against the supplying nerves and thus damages them. The most well-known of them is carpal tunnel syndrome: Patients suffer from pain, feelings of numbness and a reduction of strength in the hand.
