Anatomy

Clinic for Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery: Hip Department

The hip joint connects the pelvis to the lower extremities. In the acetabular socket, as part of the pelvis, lies the round femur head of the femur.

The acetabular socket and femur head are covered by a smooth, whitish layer of cartilage (hyaline cartilage), which enables a low-friction, sliding movement. Here, joint capsules, strong ligaments and the musculature ensure the necessary stability.
