Digital gait analysis

Special services

Digital gait analysis allows doctors to exactly record the movements of people. In contrast to subjective gait analysis, where doctors or physiotherapists observe the patient, the computer-aided version provides exact, three-dimensional data of the gait pattern (e.g. speed, step length, load etc.) which cannot be observed with the naked eye or only to a limited extent.

The examination in the gait laboratory does not put strain on the patient and is not associated with any pain: The examiners (biomechanics and doctors) attach light-reflecting markers to the body surface of the patient, who then walks through the room and over force plates.

He or she is filmed with infra-red cameras from several angles. The parameters recorded a computer-aided analysis of all data. The patient benefits in two ways: On the one hand, the findings are supplemented before the therapy and the diagnosis is refined, and on the other the doctors can check the success of the therapy with repeated gang analyses. This method is specifically used for certain illnesses.

Bio-mechanics

With our research in the area of bio-mechanics, we support the clinical work of the surgeons. Our main areas of research are instrumented 3D gait and movement analysis of patients with a wide range of illnesses and X-ray analysis of the hip joint.
