Preparation

The artificial knee joint

The insertion of an artificial knee joint is a major operation: for this reason, our doctors provide patients with comprehensive, expert information on the preparation, procedure and follow-up care of the operation. People can therefore be sure that they receive the best possible care at the Waldkrankenhaus Eisenberg.

Before the operation, our doctors carry out a thorough physical examination. Here they determine whether any concomitant internal disorders exist, for example cardiovascular problems, infections, high blood pressure, or whether the body is weakened by an inflammation or an infection. In this way, the doctors ensure that the operation is performed as smoothly and safely as possible.

These preliminary examinations also form the basis for the discussion with the anaesthetist. The latter develops the individual anaesthetic concept together with the patient, adapted to his or her health condition and any previous illnesses. Here our anaesthetists work intensively with the surgeons: especially with orthopaedic operations, the optimum anaesthetic method reduces the recovery period of the patient.
