Accident insurance consultant surgery hours

Trauma Department

The accident insurance consultant is responsible for treatment and accounting of a work, school or kindergarten accident: He or she must be consulted in all cases in which statutory accident insurance covers the costs of treatment. This also applies to secondary illnesses following a work accident.

With its modern equipment and the highly qualified doctors, the Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery Department at our hospital fulfils the requirements to treat all injuries as specified by the employer's liability insurance association: We mainly treat adults and children with fractures, soft tissue injuries, traumatic head and brain injuries and post-traumatic disorders.

Examination

On the first visit to the accident insurance consultant's surgery, the doctor discusses the injury and possible accompanying disorders with the patient.  In order to organise assumption of costs by the insurance company, he or she will also ask questions relating to the sequence of events of the accident. This is important – as the accident insurance consultant writes the report for the statutory accident insurance company. The discussion is supplemented by a thorough physical examination.

If necessary, the doctor refines the diagnosis by means of x-ray, MRI or ultrasound examinations. Specialist doctors from the hospital may also be consulted for further advice. He or she then draws up the best possible therapy concept together with the patient.

Treatment

Many injuries can be treated in the out-patients department, for example bruises, sprains or minor skin and soft tissue injuries. For this, our emergency out-patients department has a treatment and operating room as well as a plaster room.

The doctor also checks the current vaccination status for tetanus and renews the vaccination if necessary. In the event of pain, the patient also receives medication to relieve the symptoms. After treatment, the accident insurance consultant decides whether the patient should return to the out-patients department for follow-up treatment or whether the patient's G.P. should handle further treatment.

Sometimes hospitalisation is necessary: for example, if the doctors want to check healing progress or have to perform an operation.  In these cases, we can provide accident patients with fast, expert treatment in our clinic.
