The most common anaesthetic procedures

Clinic for Anaesthesia and Intensive Therapy

We adapt the anaesthetic procedure to the individual needs of the patient, his or her physical condition and the individual operation. For this reason, the anaesthetist works out the optimum anaesthetic concept together with the patient before the operation.

General anaesthetics:
Anaesthesia

When giving an anaesthetic, the doctor administers medication intravenously to the patient, which quickly puts him or her to sleep and relaxes the muscles.

The main regional anaesthetic procedures:
Spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia

We employ spinal anaesthesia and epidural anaesthesia for operations on the lower extremities. Here, the anaesthetic is injected into the spinal canal in the area of the lumbar spine.

Brachial plexus anaesthesia

We employ brachial plexus anaesthesia for operations on the hand, the arm and on the shoulder. Depending on the area of operation, the anaesthetist injects the anaesthetic into the plexus of the armpit, below or above the clavicle or in the area of the front neck muscles or of the nape of the neck.

Lumbal plexus anaesthesia

The leg is supplied by two large nerves, the nervus femoralis and the nervus ischiadicus. Both nerves can be individually located and blocked.
