Brachial plexus anaesthesia

The most common anaesthetic procedures

We employ brachial plexus anaesthesia for operations on the hand, the arm and on the shoulder.

Depending on the area of operation, the anaesthetist injects the anaesthetic into the plexus of the armpit, below or above the clavicle or in the area of the front neck muscles or of the nape of the neck.

Which access is selected essentially depends on the place of operation.  In the case of shoulder operations, anaesthetisation of the side of the neck is a sometimes unpleasant measure but one which is necessary to combat pain.
