Clinic for General and Abdominal Surgery

Dear visitor,

In our Clinic for General and Abdominal Surgery, we care for approximately 1,300 patients per year. Our range of services comprises the whole field of general surgery. We have specialised here above all in abdominal or stomach surgery with the main focus on coloproctology.

In the care of coloproctological diseases (diseases of the bowel, rectum and anus), we are a leading clinic in Thuringia: We treat our patients with the latest therapy and operation methods and perform all procedures in rectal and colon surgery.

One main focus here is laparoscopic surgery, so-called "keyhole surgery". This method is routinely used today to remove the gall bladder and the appendix and to treat hernias and incisional hernias.

Since 2006, laparoscopic colon surgery has also been established in our clinic: We use this method in particular to treat sigmoid diverticulosis/-itis, for chronic-inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. In some cases, we also carry out laparoscopic resections to treat colon carcinomas.

The advantage of this method of operation: only small incisions are necessary, through which the instruments and a camera are introduced.

Here, our patients benefit from low levels of post-operative pain, a short recovery time and a shorter stay at the clinic.

We can operate on diseases of the thyroid gland, for example benign and malignant formation of nodules or diffuse enlargements of the thyroid gland: After out-patient diagnosis and completion of conservative therapy, we admit patients to the ward. In the case of an operation, we use state-of-the-art equipment for localisation and protection of the so-called vocal chord nerves (neuro-monitoring). After-care is handled by the patient's GP in cooperation with the endocrinologist.

No one person is like another: Therefore, we gear medical care to the individual needs of the patients.

No one person is like another: Therefore, we gear medical care to the individual needs of the patients.

We treat the consequences of circulatory disorders of the legs and fingers, which may lead to amputations, conservatively and operatively. We carry out a corresponding diagnosis in our hospital. In addition, we co-operate closely with the experts from vascular surgery clinics in East Thuringia and transfer patients to specialist hospitals for extended vascular diagnostics and vascular reconstruction measures.

In the examinations and treatment measures, we take the time for every patient: we inform them in detail of the diagnosis and together work out a suitable therapy plan. We will be pleased to answer all questions which arise here. In this way, the patients in our hospital can be sure of receiving maximum care.
